Chapter 1 - milango
Lamu doors have for generations had Arab-influenced motifs and designs recalling centuries of trade and migration along the coast. In the hands of local artisans, foreign patterns became living symbols of a culture born from exchange, resilience, and coastal ingenuity.
chapter 2 - vivalao na vigango
Vivalao & Vigango explores the relationship between objects, memory and cultural inheritance.
Through the stories held within material culture, the film reflects on how meaning travels across generations and how objects can become vessels for identity, belief and remembrance.
Chapter 3 - vyungu
For generations, the Jomvu Kuu Women group have carried the art of traditional pottery, each woman adding her hands and her story to the clay. Together, they gather earth, mold it with patience, and fire it with care, their laughter and conversations weaving into the rhythm of their work. Beyond craft, their pottery sustains families, teaches younger women resilience, and binds the community through shared heritage.
